Bratislava public transport ticket chooser

This chooser recommends a Bratislava public transport ticket from the number of days you stay, how often you ride, whether you arrive at the airport and whether you carry big luggage. It compares single time-based tickets with 24, 72 and 168-hour passes and explains how to buy.

Prices shown are electronic tickets for zones 100 and 101 as listed in October 2026. Check imhd.sk or dpb.sk before you travel, because fares change.

Ticket types in Bratislava

The integrated transport system IDS BK lists these ticket types on imhd.sk, with the page valid from 1 July 2026.

  • Single tickets valid from 30 to 300 minutes depending on zones. Electronic prices as listed in October 2026: 30 minutes (zones 100 and 101) €1.09, 60 minutes €1.60. Paper tickets cost more.
  • Bank-card tickets in city buses and trams: 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 24 hours, with a daily fare cap.
  • Daily tickets (electronic, zones 100 and 101): 24 hours €4.85, 72 hours €9.68, 168 hours €16.20. The 168-hour ticket is electronic only.
  • Luggage, bicycle or animal ticket, valid 5 hours in all zones.

The system also has SMS tickets and a weekend family ticket. See our guide to Bratislava public transport.

How the recommendation is made

The tool multiplies your days by trips per day and prices every trip as a 30-minute electronic ticket. It then finds the cheapest combination of 24, 72 and 168-hour passes that covers your days. If the passes cost less, it recommends them. Otherwise it recommends single tickets.

Passes run for their full number of hours from validation. A 24-hour ticket pays off from about five short trips in a day. For a stay of a few days with a walkable centre, single tickets are often cheaper. Longer stays or heavy riding make a 72 or 168-hour pass better value.

How to buy and validate

  • IDS BK app: electronic tickets of all types. The Cyril app sells single-trip tickets only.
  • Machines and shops: yellow and red machines, newsstands, DPB and Arriva sales points and ZSSK cashiers.
  • Contactless card: tap a bank card on the validator in a DPB city bus or tram. A 30-minute ticket needs no choice on the display. For a 60-minute or 24-hour ticket, select it on the display first, then tap.

Card tickets are not sold or valid on regional buses or trains. Keep your ticket until you leave the vehicle, because inspectors check.

Arriving at the airport and luggage

Trolleybus 61 links Bratislava Airport with Hlavná stanica. According to imhd.sk, most trips from the airport need a 60-minute ticket, so a 24-hour pass bought on arrival covers the ride and the rest of the day. Read Bratislava airport to the city centre for the current options.

A bag larger than 60 x 45 x 25 cm needs a luggage ticket or a reduced 30-minute ticket. The price was not shown on the page we checked, so look at the current list. It does not apply on trains, which have their own luggage fees. If you would rather not ride with heavy bags, see luggage storage in Bratislava.

Common stay lengths

For a weekend city break where you walk the Old Town and ride once or twice a day, single tickets or contactless taps are usually the cheapest. For a stay of three to four days with a mix of castle, airport and outer districts, a 72-hour pass often wins. For a week-long base with daily rides, the 168-hour ticket is the best value. The tool runs this comparison for your numbers.

Check the family weekend ticket if you travel with children, and ask the driver or check the validator if you are unsure which ticket applies on a line that leaves the city zones.

Limits

The tool assumes all trips are short enough for a 30-minute ticket inside zones 100 and 101. Longer rides, other zones, regional buses and trains need other tickets. Prices and rules change, and some promotions run for limited periods. Treat the result as a guide and confirm on imhd.sk or dpb.sk.
