Localrent is a car rental marketplace that connects you with local rental companies, but on the day we checked its site, Slovakia was not among the listed destinations. For a Slovakia trip, QEEQ, Economybookings and Auto Europe are the better places to start, and Localrent is more useful if your route also takes in a neighbouring country it does cover.

Localrent says it operates across Europe, Asia and Africa. Searches of its site showed Austria, Hungary and Czechia as listed countries, which matters if you plan a Vienna, Budapest or Prague leg. We could not find a Slovakia page, so verify before you rely on it.

Taply has not used this service. This review is based on the company's own site and public review platforms at the time of writing.

What Localrent is

Localrent describes itself as a car rental service that connects customers with rental companies across Europe, Asia and Africa. Its footer names Renot Software OÜ, an Estonian-registered entity, with a start date of 2012. It lists more than 70 destinations on the homepage, with Georgia, Turkey, Cyprus, Montenegro and Morocco among the biggest by cars.

Does Localrent operate in Slovakia?

When we checked the homepage and searched the site, Slovakia was not listed. A direct Slovakia page did not exist either. Searches did show Austria, Hungary and Czechia, so the nearest options are across the border.

That can still be useful. If you are flying into Vienna and driving to Slovakia, read car rental from Vienna Airport to Slovakia and confirm with any supplier that cross-border travel is allowed and what fee applies. Listings change, so run a search for your own dates before deciding.

How booking and pricing work

Localrent says you pay only around 15 to 20 percent of the total online, and the remainder at pick-up. It also says its average deposit is about 300 euros, and that many companies take no deposit. Cancellation terms were not given on the homepage, so read the terms on the specific offer.

What reviews say

At the time of writing, Trustpilot showed Localrent with a high average from several thousand reviews. Reviewers praised responsive local staff, clean cars and low prices. Complaints included minor vehicle faults, unexpected charges for cleaning or deposits, and one dispute about insurance coverage.

Small local firms vary, so read the review of the specific supplier shown for your offer.

Better ways to rent in Slovakia

Start with car rental in Slovakia, then pick a city guide: Bratislava, Košice or Poprad. For fees on cross-city drop-offs see one-way car rental, and for excess cover car rental insurance explained.

Note that some of those pages list Localrent among the options for Slovakia. We could not confirm that Slovak locations exist, so use it only if your search returns an actual Slovak pick-up.

Practical checks before you book anywhere

Whatever platform you use, confirm the pick-up address, the excess, the fuel policy and cross-border rules. Motorways need a vignette, covered in the Slovakia vignette guide.
